day 11 of bonding

Happy Valentines
Day!

Here we are---
obviously very
warm in the
baby house!!
Happy Valentines Day every one! This was our very first holiday together...although it is not really celebrated here in Kazakstan. We had a good day--found out that court will be February 22 at 9:30am. Please pray that all goes well and I will officially become Zhanna's mom!
After that, if all goes well, she moves in to the apartment with me for a mandatory 15 day waiting period. My mom will be leaving the states on March 4--should be here on or about the 7th. Can't wait to see her and have Zhanna meet her "Babushka"! (I always thought a Babushka was a hat or a scarf--WRONG! It is a grandmother!)
Lynn--I am not able to follow the olympics here--they only give brief updates, and they are in Kazakh or Russian. The TV here is 50% Kazakh and 50% Russian, and 0% English. There is no cable in the apartment, so my only link to the news is Lena, who does not pay too much attention, and news channel 9 online. I check it every morning as I drink my coffee--(thank you so much Linda for the coffee bags!) I have tried to watch the news in Russian, but so far my only vocabulary has to do with babies, hello and goodbye, (which I have recognized on the news), and assorted please, thank yous and various weather words. I will work on my vocabulary, but they would need to say the news in slow motion for me to pick anything up. Please keep me posted on anything I need to know...besides the snow in Central Park. Mom filled me in on that one!
I think tomorrow or Thursday I have to meet with a social worker at the Department of Education here in Karaganda--we are waiting for the call for the appointment. Anyway, Kathy, Janice and Mark of Children at Heart, if you are reading this, I can't thank you enough. Every thing (so far) has gone like clockwork...it has been a wonderful experience thus far!!!
Well, that's all for today--it may be morning for you but it is past my bedtime here. Yes Maria--its already tomorrow here! Again, Happy Valentines Day and thank you all for your emails and support!

Hey Chris,
Here's the Olympic update on Kazakhstan: no medals yet, but men's ice hockey plays today and tomorrow to qualify for next week's quarterfinals (they play Sweden today and Russia next). Kaz came in 6th in Men's Cross Country Skiing, and 9th in Women's Cross Country. So far, the USA is in 3rd place medal wise, with 7 altogether.
That's the update.
Have a fun day!
Love, Lynn
