It is now Thursday night--we actually had a great day. Zhanna still had a little temp this morning--100.8F, but was feeling much more like herself. I left her--yes, I actually left her, with Lena so I could replenish the baby food supply and get some other groceries. I was gone about 40 minutes, but it seemed like hours. It is a very different experience to go grocery shopping without the benefit of a translator. Many items have some English on them, and pictures, but not all. The meat department seems to serve whole sides of meat, don't know what kind, and the frozen fish are wrapped in saran wrap--yes, with heads and eyes!! There is a whole isle of canned fish too, not sure what specifically a tuna looks like, so I avoided that. Still doing well on pasta---all kinds of shapes here for variety!--and oatmeal. Maybe when Mom gets here I will be a little more adventurous--don't want to get sick and have no one to care for Zhanna!
She has been much more active today, and playing. As you can see from the picture, still no teeth--and no signs of them that I could tell. The doctor at the orphanage said it is just teething, give Tylenol and extra fluids. Did that, and she is better. I'll keep an eye out for teeth.
There was no Ash Wednesday service yesterday, over half of the population of Kazakhstan is Muslim, so the Mosques out number the churches by about a million. The calendar is different here too--I think its called the Cyrillic calendar, and Easter is around April 24th here. According to Lena, I should be home in plenty of time...hope she was kidding...
Thank you all for your emails and support while Zhanna was sick--it really helped. Will write more tomorrow...
